Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Director General of JSC "Russian Railways" Oleg Belozerov opened the Moscow city station Shcherbinka of the Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-2) line, which is put back into operation after reconstruction. This was announced by the mayor of the capital in his Telegram-channel on January 16.

Sobyanin noted that the transportation hub was erected on the site of an obsolete stop of suburban electric trains, and is very much in demand in the prefecture of the Troitsk and Novomoskovsk Administrative Districts (TINAO).

"With the launch of MCD-2, the number of passengers in Shcherbinka has increased 1.5 times and continues to grow. About 90 thousand people live and work in walking distance from the station," - said the mayor.

In order to make it even more convenient for passengers to move around, three new routes of ground urban transport were launched. Thus, the access to the station became five minutes faster.

Also, together with the head of Russian Railways, the development plans of the Central Transport Hub for 2025-2026 were approved. Within their framework, seven stations of the capital will be built or modernized, the rolling stock of four diameters will be renewed, and the delivery of new trains to the Yaroslavl direction of the Moscow Railway (MZhD) will begin.

"In the plan, which we signed on the instructions of the President [of Russia Vladimir Putin ], there are 15 measures for the development of passenger infrastructure," the mayor specified.

At the end of December 2024, Moscow Deputy Mayor for Transportation and Industry Maxim Liksutov said that about 3 million people visited the Northern and Southern River Stations over the past year. More than 800 events were held on their platforms. The piers of the stations received and dispatched cruise ships more than 2.1 thousand times. Next year the potential of the stations will continue to develop according to Sobyanin's order, added Liksutov.
