Ilan Shor, chairman of the Moldovan opposition Victory bloc, on January 16 criticized local authorities for investigating his payments to the country's citizens, calling them a "deception."

"The authorities are again intimidating people with 'investigation'. They call aid a deception, and mad tariffs for communal services - care," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

He emphasized that he never demanded the return of the money spent. At the same time, Shor noted that in the country "there are roads, public gardens and parks" that were built at his expense.

Earlier in the day, Irina Vlah, the leader of the political force and former head of Gagauzia, said that the Moldovan opposition party "Heart of Moldova" announced the decision to raise a popular initiative to hold a referendum on the issue of Moldova's neutral status. According to her, periodically high-ranking officials question the country's neutrality status as they point out the country's need to become part of some military alliance.

Before that, on December 29, 2024, former Moldovan President Igor Dodon called on the opposition forces to unite in order to achieve a change of power in the country. According to him, the activities of the ruling Action and Solidarity party are completely contrary to the interests of citizens.

On December 19, Dodon said that Moldova is in a pre-revolutionary situation. The former president added that the protests in the country will only grow, so he calls for protests without slogans and flags, so that the current government realizes its incompetence.

Before that, in October, the Moldovan opposition staged a protest outside the Constitutional Court against the recognition of the results of the referendum on EU accession.
