Victory Volunteers will launch a series of events to mark the Day of the Breakthrough of the Siege of Leningrad

On January 18, Victory Volunteers will hold commemorative and educational events timed to coincide with the Day of the Breakthrough of the Siege of Leningrad.

On the eve of the memorable date, volunteers will visit veterans of the Great Patriotic War who survived the blockade or took part in the liberation of the city, show warmth, care and present memorable gifts. Svetlana Borisovna Pivunova will be congratulated in Moscow. Svetlana Borisovna was born in 1931, and in 1942 was evacuated along the "Road of Life" to Moscow, where she lived all her life and worked as a school teacher for more than 68 years. In the capital Victory Volunteers will also visit Maya Abdulovna Shakirova, a resident of besieged Leningrad, who helped to carry the sick and the dead, to extinguish shells that fell under houses.

Victory Volunteers of Nizhny Novgorod region will come to visit Kurepina Natalia Yurievna, a resident of the Siege of Leningrad. Natalia was born on September 30, 1930 in the city of Leningrad, during the whole blockade she was surrounded by the city with her mother and sister. A year before the end of the war she was evacuated to the Gorky region, where she stayed. Natalya Yurievna is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, honorary veteran of Nizhny Novgorod, head of Nizhny Novgorod city public organization "Residents of the Siege of Leningrad", member of the International Association of Siege-Bearers.

Victory Volunteers will also hold a number of commemorative events in Russia's regions. Within the framework of the All-Russian action of memory "Blockade Bread" volunteers will go to the streets of settlements to hand out information leaflets to the residents and tell about the symbol of the blockade - a piece of bread weighing 125 grams, thus reminding about heroism and steadfastness of Leningrad residents, which they showed in the most inhuman conditions. Thus, the action will take place within the framework of volunteer support of the traveling immersive exhibition "Victory Train" in the Leningrad region - volunteers of the Movement will offer visitors to learn more about the heroism and resilience of the inhabitants of the Siege of Leningrad.

Volunteers of the regional branch in Moscow will organize the action in Zaryadye Park and tell about the feats committed by the residents of the besieged city.

In Abakan, the capital of the Republic of Khakassia, Victory Volunteers will hold a campaign "Blockade Bread" for the city's residents who are not indifferent. Representatives of the Movement will offer to learn the history of the symbol of the blockade, as well as tell in detail about the realities of life of Leningrad residents in the 40s of XX century.

Representatives of the Victory Volunteers will organize ceremonies of laying flowers at mass graves and memorials dedicated to the siege of Leningrad. By their example, concerned citizens of the country, volunteers, representatives of various public associations will demonstrate the importance of preserving history and honor the memory of Heroes. In Tomsk region the commemorative event will be held at the memorial to those who died in the Great Patriotic War. Representatives of public associations, including the Victory Volunteers, will come to honor the memory of the heroic deeds of the residents of the Siege of Leningrad and the defenders of the city. Laying flowers will be held in St. Petersburg, Leningrad region, Moscow, Irkutsk region and other regions.

In addition, events will be held in Ryazan region, Kherson region, Saratov region, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Rostov region, Perm region and other subjects.

Residents of the regions will learn about the strategic operations and life in the besieged city during the lesson "Blockade Bread". Victory Volunteers will hold an educational event in the Leningrad Region, the Republic of Crimea, the Vologda Region, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District and other regions.
