- In the Polar Region, a high alert mode was introduced due to heavy rains and icy conditions
High alert mode due to heavy rains and ice has been introduced in the Murmansk region. This was reported by the Governor of the region Andrei Chibis on January 16.
"All services are mobilized, rescuers are ready. I keep the situation under personal control, everything necessary is done to minimize all the risks," he said in a video message published in the Telegram-channel.
In addition, Chibis said that due to unfavorable weather conditions in the region dozens of flights have been delayed, and some sections of federal and regional roads are closed.
The governor urged residents to exercise caution and refrain from traveling.
On the same day, the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand said that since the end of autumn, the weather in the country has been influenced by Atlantic air - thanks to it, temperature anomalies are observed not only in the European part of the country, but also in Siberia and on the Pacific coast. Against the background of Atlantic influence, temperature records have been set in some regions. For example, in Ulan-Ude and Irkutsk the temperature is slightly above zero. Thus, the 1921 record of -4 degrees Celsius was exceeded.
