In Brazil, 16-year-old goalkeeper Edson Lopes Gama, who played for an amateur club in the state of Amazonas, died after training on January 6. This was reported on January 16 by the publication Globo.

The young goalkeeper was reflecting a penalty kick when the ball hit him in the chest. The blow came to the area between the sternum and diaphragm, after which the teenager fell to the ground. The goalkeeper was called an ambulance and sent to the hospital, but the car got to the medical facility for about 11 hours, and the doctors could not help the goalkeeper.

It is noted that the teenager did not have heart problems and cardiovascular disease.

Earlier, on February 12, 2024, a lightning strike killed a player of the club Persikas Subanga during a friendly match at a stadium in Indonesia. The lightning killed the player on the field of the Siliwangi Stadium in Bandunga city in the 15th minute of the game. According to eyewitnesses, a few seconds before the fatal strike, another lightning struck the field: it did not hit anyone.
