Since late fall, the weather in Russia has been influenced by Atlantic air - thanks to it, temperature anomalies are observed not only in the European part of the country, but also in Siberia and on the Pacific coast. This was stated by Roman Vilfand, scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand, during a press conference at the Izvestia IEC on January 16.

"This is what is connected with such warm weather not only in Moscow, and not only in the Urals, but also in Western Siberia, in the Krasnoyarsk region. And so when there will be questions about Baikal (the lake is not covered with ice, as it happens under climatic norms. - Ed.), it will be the Atlantic air that will finalize the weather in the Asian part of the country. <...> Atlantic dictates its conditions, so the temperature is 15-16 degrees above the norm," he said.

According to the expert, temperature records have been set in some regions against the background of the Atlantic influence. For example, in Ulan-Ude and Irkutsk the temperature is slightly above zero. Thus, the 1921 record of -4 degrees Celsius has been exceeded. In addition, very warm relative to normal temperatures are also observed in Yakutia - there is currently about -25 degrees Celsius with the norm around -45 degrees Celsius.

Before that, on January 12, Vilfand explained that the lack of ice cover on Baikal is due to disturbance and deep cyclonic formations. The press service of the Baikal Search and Rescue Unit of the Russian Emergencies Ministry said on January 12 that the difficult situation on Baikal remains. The agency added that ice formation in the south is not expected due to the warm winter.
