The widespread process of demolishing monuments to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War (WWII), which is taking place in Ukraine under the rule of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024), is anti-human and beyond morality. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on January 16.

The diplomat recalled that in December 2024, the golden stars of the hero-cities of Moscow and Minsk and their letter names were chipped from the Alley of Hero Cities in the Museum of Ukrainian History in Kiev from the memorial signs.

"In the town of Kagarlyk, Kiev region, by decision of local authorities - it is no longer some, so to speak, ghouls uncertain, it is already the authorities official - was dismantled bas-relief of the Order of the Patriotic War, which was awarded, among other things, many thousands of Ukrainians who fought against the fascist invaders," - said the diplomat at the briefing.

In Vinnytsia region, tombstones from the graves of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War were barbarously demolished, after which they were transported to the place where Hitler's "Werewolf" headquarters near Vinnytsia was located during the Nazi occupation, Zakharova added.

"It seems to me that this is not even blasphemy anymore. Blasphemy is inherent in people when there is probably still some possibility for rehabilitation, for repentance. This is something deeply anti-human, created by Zelensky's regime with the approval of Western curators. This is really beyond comprehension, beyond human morality," the diplomat said.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the exhumation of remains of Soviet heroes of the Second World War in Ukraine was a reality of the Kiev regime. On the eve of the Ukrainian edition "Zahid" reported that in Lviv they plan to exhume and rebury the remains of Soviet soldiers in connection with the relocation of the memorial complex "Hill of Glory".

Earlier, December 4, 2024, in Kiev dismantled a bust of twice Hero of the USSR, partisan commander Sidor Kovpak. As reported by the Ukrainian edition of "Public. News", the demolition of the monument was carried out within the framework of the so-called decommunization.

Before that, on November 20, it was reported about the demolition of the monument to Soviet spy Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya in the city of Belgorod-Dnestrovsky in Odessa region. The monument stood in the yard of one of the schools. The mass media pointed out that after the start of the special military operation, Ukrainian activists had repeatedly asked the local authorities to dismantle it. The decision to demolish it was approved in November 2023.

The policy of so-called decolonization was a continuation of "decommunization" in Ukraine, which began to be carried out since 2015 within the framework of the law "On condemnation of communist and Nazi regimes". It prescribes demolishing monuments, dismantling memorial plaques, and renaming all topographical objects whose names are associated with the USSR or Russia. This policy became especially acute after the start of the Russian Federation's special operation to defend Donbass in February 2022.
