Dealers said that the Russian car market is overstocked
In the Russian car market by the beginning of 2025 a large number of new cars has accumulated in the warehouses of dealers, distributors and suppliers, the volume will be enough for 4-6 months of sales. This was stated by the general director of the dealer holding Avtodom Andrei Olkhovsky, reports the agency " Autostat " on January 16.
According to Olkhovsky, the situation at the end of last year in warehouses was very negative. The largest volume of cars piled up at volume-forming brands, which could not stop deliveries quickly. In turn, Renat Tyukteev, deputy general director for new car sales at Avilon AG, shared that many brands are cautiously planning their volumes for 2025, as 90% of their forecasts for last year did not come true.
According to Andrey Terlyukevich, General Director of AutoSpecCenter Group of Companies, many Chinese manufacturers were not ready to accept the changed market conditions and promptly respond to new challenges. At the current cost of financing dealers are not able to stimulate sales at their own expense and maintain months-long warehouses, he pointed out.
"A healthy dealer network is needed to maintain the market share of the brand, and for this we need to change the approach in the distributor-dealer relationship. The time of queues of those wishing to get a dealership is over," Terlyukevich said.
On January 13, the Committee of automakers of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said that in 2025, sales of new cars in Russia may decline by 15% compared to last year. Thus, the market volume may approach the figure of 2016.
On January 10, Renat Tyukteev told Izvestia that the number of car dealerships of Chinese brands in Moscow and the Moscow region is already excessive. Some of the dealers may close in the coming months due to the current market situation.
