The territory of Sevastopol should be included in the federal emergency zone because of the extensive fuel oil spill after an accident with oil tankers. On January 16, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev addressed such a request to the head of the Russian Emergencies Ministry Alexander Kurenkov.

He noted that a meeting of the federal headquarters was held in the city with the participation of the Minister for the elimination of the consequences of the fuel oil release. Razvozhayev reported to Kurenkov on the work done since January 3, when the first fuel oil stains appeared.

"We appealed to the federal level with a request to include the territory of Sevastopol in the emergency zone of federal character. Now we have a regional emergency mode, and we have already begun to allocate substantial amounts from the regional budget - to date, 78 million rubles have been allocated," the governor pointed out in his Telegram channel.

He noted that the city may need additional funds for waste disposal, which is the most costly activity. In order to reimburse such costs, we need help from the federal budget, concluded Razvozhayev.

Earlier, on January 15, it was reported that near the coast of the village of Taman managed to localize a repeated spill of fuel oil from the tanker "Volganeft-239" and prevent a massive spill of petroleum products. This part of the vessel ran aground in the Temryuksky area last week, at the same time a new fuel oil spill was discovered from the stern of the Volgoneft-239 tanker.

On the same day "Izvestia" showed the work of EMERCOM specialists who are laying a protective rampart around the tanker. An access technical road to the stern of the emergency vessel was built in a day on behalf of Kurenkov. The bunding of the Volgoneft-239 will be completed by the evening of January 16, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev told reporters.

Prior to that, on January 13, the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region reported that in the Black Sea at the stern of the tanker "Volgoneft-239" heavy machinery began cleaning oil products. It was reported that the collected mixture of oil products and water is further taken to special enterprises for further utilization.

Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" due to bad weather crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate the work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.

January 2, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Transport said that 2.4 thousand tons of oil products had fallen into the Black Sea after the crash of the tankers. Later, on January 3, an oil slick was found in Sevastopol at the entrance to Balaklava Bay. The next day, the fuel oil moved northward along the Crimean coast, and Sevastopol declared a regional state of emergency.
