Political analyst calls Biden's speech an attempt to justify himself to Americans
The current US President Joe Biden tried to justify himself to the Americans for the crises during his reign. Thus, he will go down in the history of the country as one of the most unsuccessful leaders of our time. This was stated by Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, in a conversation with Izvestia on January 16.
"In my opinion, the speech was an attempt to save face and justify himself to the Americans for all the crises the US faced during these four tumultuous years of Biden's presidency. And it was such a session of political gaslighting, because we see that two-thirds of Americans are dissatisfied with what is happening inside the U.S. in the economy, in migration, and with crime," the expert explained.
At the same time, he added, the outgoing leader in his final speech said that the United States has managed to achieve great successes, including overcoming high inflation - it really became lower than, for example, the level of 2022, but prices remained high, the political scientist noted. Among other things, Biden tried to attribute successes regarding the release of hostages from the captivity of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas, but the leader's apparatchiks themselves recognized that the team of US President-elect Donald Trump played a significant role in the conclusion of this deal, Dudakov said.
"As for some criticism that Biden uttered, it's funny to watch and listen to - about the conspiracy of oligarchs, as Biden called it, which threatens American democracy - we understand perfectly well that there are billionaires, oligarchs in both Democrats and Republicans. "Of course, I think Joe Biden has nothing against his own 'right' democratic oligarchs," said the interlocutor of the publication.
According to him, such claims of Biden are hard to take seriously. In addition, the Americanist added that the performance of the outgoing leader is symbolic - Biden will go down in history for "one failure" and the inability to develop a coherent policy, which was the reason for the defeat of the Democrats in the presidential election.
"I think we will hear some more speeches and speeches from Biden after he leaves the presidency of the United States. But in my opinion, all of his current excuses, frankly, only prove the fact that his presidency has been a very, very failure. Joe Biden will go down in U.S. history as one of the most unsuccessful presidents in the modern era, quite possibly on the same level as Jimmy Carter," the political scientist concluded.
Biden delivered a 17-minute farewell speech the day before. During the speech, he pointed out the dangers of strengthening the oligarchy, proposed to change the U.S. Constitution and said he had managed to preserve Ukraine's freedom.
US House Speaker Mike Johnson, in turn, called Biden's legacy the migration crisis, the persecution of opponents and the strengthening of Washington's enemies. He also listed Biden's failures as organizing "the worst border crisis in US history," bringing terrorists and violent illegal aliens into communities, inflation, hiding his "mental decline" from the American people, and more.
