Russian Armed Forces hit military airfields and drone assembly sites in Ukraine
The Russian Armed Forces (AF) have struck drone production workshops, assembly sites and warehouses in Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 16.
"Operational-tactical aviation, strike drones, missile troops and artillery of groups of troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation hit the infrastructure of military airfields, production workshops, places of assembly and storage of drones, as well as accumulations of enemy manpower and equipment in 152 areas," the ministry said in a statement.
In addition, the Southern Group of Forces improved its position on the line of contact by hitting eight brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the areas of Chasov Yar, Kramatorsk, Minkovka, Alekseevo-Druzhkovka, Konstantinovka, Sribnoye and Dachne of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). The Ukrainian Army lost up to 260 fighters, four armored combat vehicles (ACVs), a tank, seven artillery pieces, including two 155 mm caliber M777 American howitzers, and five pickup trucks there.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the crew of a T-72B3 tank of the Center group of troops destroyed an AFU stronghold on the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction. The tankers arrived at a closed firing position and struck the enemy from a distance of up to 8 kilometers.
At the same time, the ministry showed the combat work of artillery crews of Grad multiple rocket launchers of the "North" group of troops, which destroyed the AFU's FPV drone launching sites and the locations of the enemy's attack adjusters in the special operation zone. In addition, the artillerymen provided the AFU assault units with an opportunity to attack in the Kharkiv direction.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
