Air defense systems shot down 95 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory in 24 hours

The Russian Air Defense Forces have shot down 95 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the territory of Russia. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 16.

"Air defense means shot down three guided aerial bombs Hammer made in France, 12 rockets of the HIMARS multiple rocket launcher system made in the United States and 95 unmanned aerial vehicles of aircraft type," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, with the help of operational-tactical aviation, attack drones, rocket troops and artillery, the Russian army struck the infrastructure of military airfields, production workshops, assembly and storage sites of UAVs, as well as concentrations of enemy manpower and equipment in 152 areas.

Also, units of the "North" group of forces on the Kharkiv direction struck the formations of the motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the area of Volchansk, Kharkiv Region. As a result of the actions of the AFU, the Ukrainian army lost up to 40 military personnel.

The Defense Ministry noted that a total of more than 30,000 units of military equipment had been destroyed since the beginning of the special military operation.

On the same day, UAVs of the 35th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the "Center" group of troops destroyed a German-made Leopard tank and an AFU stronghold in the Krasnoarmeyskoye direction of the special operation. It is specified that the strike was carried out with the help of FPV drones on fiber optics. After that, the assault units cleared the dugouts and continued further advance.

The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
