Belarus reported plans for radicals to seize the country's border region
Belarusian extremists abroad, supported by the West, are planning to seize the border region of the country. This was reported on January 16 by the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aliaksandr Volfovich in an interview to the publication "SB. Belarus Today".
"According to available information, the possibility of involving the said extremist formations in an armed operation to seize one or more border areas of Belarus, to declare this territory "free" and the introduction of a certain "peacekeeping" contingent there by Western countries is being considered," he said.
Wolfowitz said Ukraine is being used by the West to wage a proxy war with Russia and Belarus. Members of various extremist groups, including Belarusian radicals, are undergoing military sabotage training on the territory of the country, he said. Then they are used in combat operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) against the Russian Federation, but the speed of their liquidation is increasing, explained Secretary of State of the Security Council.
Wolfovich specified that the "anti-Belarusian campaign" continues to support the radical opposition in order to overthrow the current government. As the date of the presidential elections is approaching, the activation of intelligence and subversive activities of foreign intelligence services is being recorded in the republic, writes "Gazeta.Ru".
In addition, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus warned the citizens of the country in an interview that the intelligence services of Ukraine are actively recruiting Belarusians through the Internet, and urged them not to fall for provocations. He noted that the victims are offered to take photos and videos of the places of deployment of the country's army units in the border area of Ukraine.
Before that, January 3, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko expressed indignation over the oppositionists in the West, who urge the population to vote against everyone in the election of the head of state. According to him, there will be no political pressure on citizens in the upcoming elections. The incumbent president also encouraged the opposition, who had left Belarus, to participate in the upcoming vote.
Presidential elections in Belarus will be held on January 26. The country's Central Election Commission has registered five candidates for the election. Lukashenko is running for his seventh term.
