The Russian Defense Ministry reported on the feats of the Russian military in the special operation zone

On 16 January, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of Russian army servicemen in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).

The ministry drew attention to the merits of Lieutenant Denis Shershnev, who as part of an assault unit carried out the task of destroying strongholds, weapons and military equipment of Ukrainian militants. During the assault, he simultaneously used an FPV drone with an ammunition drop system and conducted aerial reconnaissance of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). He promptly transmitted information about their regrouping and maneuvers to the command post.

Lieutenant Shershnev, flying a drone, destroyed several machine-gun points of the AFU militants. His courage and bravery allowed to fulfill all the tasks set for the group to storm an important enemy stronghold and prevent losses.

The Defense Ministry also noted the actions of Private Nikita Ovechkin. His unit carried out the tasks of defending a settlement liberated from Ukrainian militants, as well as searching for sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) in its vicinity. Private Ovechkin was able to notice the approach of AFU fighters who were trying to break through the defensive line of the Russian Armed Forces, and destroyed a machine gun crew and some infantry.

The fighter's courage and selflessness made it possible to detect in advance the actions of the AFU in the area of responsibility of the Russian fighters, as well as to prevent the seizure of positions of the Russian Armed Forces.

Earlier, on January 15, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the calculation of FPV drone of the Rubicon center destroyed AFU vehicle equipment. Reconnaissance units detected a vehicle carrying personnel of the Ukrainian troops. The data was transmitted to the strike means, and despite the opposition of electronic warfare systems, the calculation hit the target. The vehicle and personnel of the AFU were destroyed.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
