Israel and Hamas have agreed on a ceasefire in Gaza since January 19 and the release of hostages. Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdel Rahman Al-Thani said on January 15.
"Both sides and negotiators agreed to complete all technical procedures tonight, then the Israeli government will complete internal procedures, after that <...> will begin the implementation of the agreement," - quotes the words of the politician Al Jazeera.
It is noted that in the first phase, the duration of which will be 42 days, will be released 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Also, the Qatari Prime Minister said that Qatar and Egypt will work to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
Al Jazeera, in turn, reported that mass celebrations began in the Gaza Strip after the news of the agreement.
"Gazeta.Ru" specifies that the Hamas movement confirmed the agreements on ceasefire and the release of hostages. In addition, the movement thanked Qatar and Egypt for mediation efforts.
Earlier in the day it became known about the agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Later on January 15, US President-elect Donald Trump said that the hostages in the Gaza Strip will soon be released.
In turn, the portal Axios on January 12 reported that Trump's special envoy for the Middle East Steve Whitkoff met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on January 11 and conveyed that Trump wants to reach a deal on a ceasefire in Gaza by his inauguration, scheduled for January 20.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
