Trump tied the Gaza agreement to his election victory
US President-elect Donald Trump linked the ceasefire agreement reached in the Gaza Strip to his election victory. He published a statement to this effect on January 15 on his page on the Truth Social network.
According to Trump, the agreement could only be reached as a result of his victory in the presidential election in November 2024.
The U.S. president-elect said his national security team will continue to work with Israel and allies "to make sure Gaza never again becomes a safe haven for terrorists."
"We have accomplished so much without even being in the White House. Just imagine all the wonderful things that will happen when I'm back in the White House and my administration is fully confirmed," Trump wrote in Truth Social.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that a ceasefire agreement had been reached in the Gaza Strip. A little later, Trump said that the hostages in the Gaza Strip will soon be released.
Also on January 15, the media reported that Israel and Hamas reached agreements in principle in a deal on Gaza and the exchange of hostages. It was specified that the parties needed to discuss the parameters of the withdrawal of the Israeli army troops, as well as the exact route of the military.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
