Paintings of famous artists, including Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Damien Hirst, owned by a collector from Los Angeles (California) Ron Rivlin, burned in fires. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT) on January 14.

According to the publication, the collector lost about 200 works of art, and the losses amounted to millions of dollars.

"As the flames got closer and closer to his home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, <...> Ron Rivlin decided to flee, taking with him three Andy Warhol paintings - all he could carry," the NYT wrote.

When the collector returned to his home a few days later, the building was destroyed, as were the artworks inside.

The multiple wildfires in Los Angeles started on January 7. Extinguishing continues, with strong winds fueling the fire and rescue crews lacking water. In connection with the fires in the state declared a major disaster regime. More than 12.3 thousand structures were destroyed.

January 12, ABC News TV channel reported that at least 24 people were killed in fires in California. Another 10 were reported missing. On the same day, Bloomberg reported that the fire in California could have been caused by a broken wire. It was found on a tower connected to the Eagle Rock Sylmar power line. Meanwhile, The Washington Post noted that the cause could have been the launching of fireworks on New Year's Eve.
