Russia to harvest a record crop of rice, soybeans and rapeseed in 2024

Russia will have a record harvest of rice, soybeans and rapeseed by the end of 2024. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture on January 15.

"Despite the difficult weather conditions of last year, a decent harvest was obtained for all major crops, at the level of average annual values. This, in particular, applies to cereals and oilseeds, fruit and vegetable products, potatoes and other crops. For some crops, including rice, soybeans, rapeseed, according to preliminary data, historical records were achieved," the report says.

It is also reported that the volume of livestock and poultry production for slaughter in Russia in 2024 amounted to 16.7 million tons, which is the maximum in the history of Russia and the USSR.

At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture added that potato production decreased against the background of unfavorable weather conditions, the harvest amounted to about 7.2 million tons. It was decided to establish a tariff concession for duty-free imports of imported potatoes to Russia in the volume of no more than 150 thousand tons, as well as carrots and apples up to 55 thousand tons and 230 thousand tons, respectively.

Earlier, December 30, it became known that in 2024, Russian farmers updated the record for the harvest of rice. It was noted that the area of rice crops in Russia is about 207 thousand hectares. Almost two-thirds of the production falls on the Krasnodar region, in 2024 the rice harvest in the region amounted to 829 thousand tons. The crop is also successfully cultivated in the Republic of Dagestan, the Rostov region, the Chechen Republic and the Primorsky Krai.
