TheUnited States under President-elect Donald Trump will focus on strengthening national security and establishing peace abroad. Secretary of State nominee Marco Rubio said this at his Senate confirmation hearing on January 15.

"America must be strong and actively engaged with the world, but with a clear goal of promoting peace abroad and ensuring security and prosperity here at home," said Rubio, whose remarks were carried by The New York Times.

He added that a foreign policy that focuses on the country's national interest would not be an "outdated relic." Rubio also said that the Trump administration will strengthen the U.S. position on the global stage.

On January 14, Donald Trump nominated Republican Senator Marco Rubio of Florida for Secretary of State. He said in a statement that Rubio is a highly respected leader who is characterized by a commitment to freedom and justice.

Earlier, on November 13, newly elected American President Donald Trump began forming an administration relatively loyal to him, experts interviewed by Izvestia said. In particular, Vladimir Brovkin, an American historian and former Harvard University professor, believes that Marco Rubio's potential candidacy for the post of US Secretary of State is being considered solely due to the US senator's readiness to fulfill the tasks assigned to him.
