As part of the Baltic Sentry security mission, two NATO ships have arrived in the Gulf of Finland to patrol the Baltic Sea. This was reported by the broadcaster Yle on January 15.

It is noted that this information is also confirmed by Vessel Finder ship tracking service.

In addition, Wednesday morning in the social network X (former Twitter) on the NATO account were published photos of sea vessels in the Baltic Sea. The alliance dispatched the ships after an electrical and several telecommunication cables were damaged at sea.

TheBaltic Sentry mission was announced the day before by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. He noted that it would involve a range of assets, including frigates and maritime patrol aircraft. According to him, it will contribute to increased vigilance in the Baltic Sea.

The EstLink 2 DC cable between Estonia and Finland suffered an emergency outage on December 25. The Estonian electricity and gas supply network operator Elering said that the cause of the incident is unknown, but the reliability of the country's power supply is ensured, and reserve capacities are used to compensate for the lack of electricity.

Later, Finnish police stopped the Kukapo Islands-flagged tanker Eagle S on suspicion of breaking a cable in the Baltic. As a precaution against disrupting the investigation, the Finnish police banned seven members of the tanker's crew from leaving the country, followed by the eighth.
