Russian Federation and CAR sign memorandum on cooperation in agriculture
Head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Oksana Lut together with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Central African Republic Gismala Hamza signed a memorandum in the field of agriculture. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation on January 15.
"Following the results of the meeting a memorandum of understanding in the field of agriculture was signed. It is aimed at strengthening trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation," it was written in the Telegram-channel.
During the meeting they discussed the development of bilateral trade, as well as interaction in the scientific and technical industry, breeding and seed production. Lut also said that the CAR may open sites for testing varieties and hybrids of some crops, such as corn, sorghum and potatoes.
In addition, another area of cooperation is the training of Central African students in Russian agrarian universities.
Luth added that there are prospects for increasing trade turnover in agro-industrial complex (AIC) products between the countries. According to her, this can be facilitated by establishing cooperation in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary supervision.
Earlier in the day it was reported that the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leader of the Central African Republic (CAR) Faustin-Arkange Touadera will be held on January 16. During the meeting, the leaders will discuss the state and prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as raise topical issues on the international and regional agenda.
In February 2024, Russia completed the delivery of 200,000 tons of wheat to six African countries: Mali, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Somalia and the Central African Republic. The deliveries were carried out by presidential order as humanitarian aid to the poorest countries of the African continent.
Earlier, in December, Putin said it was important to attract personnel to work in agriculture. He urged to talk about it constantly, to create conditions for young people to come and work in this sector of the economy with interest.
