Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the title "Cities of Labor Valor" to Verkhnyaya Pyshma, Zelenodolsk, Ishimbay, Kurgan, Leninsk-Kuznetskiy, Miass and Salekhard. The corresponding decree was published on January 15 on the official portal of legal acts.

The title was awarded to the cities for the significant contribution of their residents in achieving victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), for their labor heroism and selflessness, as well as for ensuring uninterrupted production of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises.

Earlier in the day, the head of state signed a decree on lump-sum payments in April-May 2025 to WWII veterans and home front workers in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory.

Also on January 15, Putin announced the consideration of several applications from cities for the relevant title. According to him, 63 cities, which bear the title "City of Labor Valor", during the Great Patriotic War were located rear enterprises, which uninterruptedly provided the front with the most necessary things.

The title "City of Labor Valor" appeared in 2020, on the 75th anniversary of the Victory. Thus it was decided to "immortalize the feat of the home front workers during the Great Patriotic War". Requests for the insignia were repeatedly put forward by public associations and deputies of the State Duma.
