Hypertension is one of the most common diseases of the cardiovascular system, affecting people after 40-45 years of age. This was reported by cardiologist and nutritionist Asiyat Khachirova on Wednesday, January 15. She named ways to control blood pressure without medication.

According to the doctor, when hypertension is detected, cardiologists prescribe drugs to reduce blood pressure and maintain it at a normal level throughout life, but in addition to drug therapy, non-medication methods of treatment and prevention play an important role.

The specialist noted that, according to clinical recommendations, the treatment of first-diagnosed arterial hypertension should begin with the correction of the patient's lifestyle. To do this, it is worth following a diet with a reduced content of table salt.

"The average Russian consumes 9 g of salt per day, which significantly exceeds the safe norm of 5 g," emphasized cardiologist-dietitologist in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

"DASH-diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) is aimed at reducing salt intake to 2.5 g per day. This allows effective control of arterial hypertension without the need for pills. Studies show that people following the DASH diet have significantly better control over blood pressure compared to those who do not limit their salt intake," the doctor said.

Khachirova emphasized that an important step in the treatment of hypertension, especially if you are overweight or obese, is to reduce your baseline weight by 10%. It is also recommended at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, 360.ru reported.

She added that to control blood pressure, it is especially important to learn to cope with stress without harm to health. According to the cardiologist, meditative techniques and other stress-management methods can help.

"A comprehensive approach to the treatment of hypertension, including lifestyle correction, drug therapy and regular medical examinations, allows you to effectively control blood pressure and reduce the risk of complications," concluded Khachirova.

The day before, Alexei Bereznikov, head of the Department of Dietetics at ROSBIOTECH University, spoke about the health of weather-sensitive people in winter. According to the specialist, blood pressure rises against the background of increasing pressure in the atmosphere. If the pressure in the atmosphere decreases, the person reacts in a similar way, RT reports.

Earlier, on January 13, nutritionist Alena Kapustina said that bitter chocolate contains less sugar and more cocoa, unlike milk and dark chocolate. Among the useful properties of bitter chocolate, the doctor said it improves mood, lowers blood pressure and strengthens the immune system.
