- Yemen's Houthis claimed an attack on the U.S. aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea
The Yemeni Houthis launched a cruise missile and drone strike on the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea. Yahya Saria, a military spokesman for Yemen's Ansar Allah movement, told Al Masirah TV on January 15.
"Missile forces and unmanned forces carried out a joint military operation, attacking the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and a number of accompanying ships in the northern Red Sea with cruise missiles and drones," Saria said.
Saria did not elaborate on details about the scale of the attack.
Earlier, on Jan. 10, Yahya Saria said the Houthis struck the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea. According to Saria, the aircraft carrier was preparing a new Yemeni air attack and because of the Houthi strike, the USS Harry Truman had to suspend that work and withdraw from the northern Red Sea.
The Houthis began striking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in November 2023 to protest Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. On the night of January 12, 2024, in response to their actions, the U.S. and Britain launched an attack on Houthi targets in Yemen. The White House said the strikes on movement-controlled areas of the country were defensive in nature. It was also claimed at the time that the strikes were carried out to protect international vessels.
