- Putin said that the defense of the memory of World War II should be based on documents
The defense of the memory of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) should be based on documents, it will vividly show the role of the Red Army. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 15.
"There are proposals from many departments, institutions to use the archival documents at their disposal. Of course! Everything we do in this sphere should be based on documents. This will make our position not just reasonable, but will vividly show the role and importance of both the Red Army and the Soviet Union as a whole in the victory over Nazism," the head of state said at a meeting of the Victory Organizing Committee.
The President reminded that it is these steps that affirm historical memory.
At the end of December 2024, Putin declared 2025 the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. Along with this, he called for promoting as a global value the victory over Nazism in 1945.
Back in July 2023, Putin signed a decree on preparing and holding the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2025. Later, the Russian leader called to mark the anniversary date brightly and solemnly. Subsequently, a jubilee medal for the important event was also established and its logo was approved.
