Former and current deputy directors for capital construction of Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, have been detained on suspicion of exceeding their official powers. This was reported on January 15 by the press service of the Department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia in the Smolensk region.

It has been established that the officials of SAPPP offered the general director of the contracting organization to pay in advance for the work not yet completed "in order to absorb in due time the funds allocated for reconstruction at the facilities" of the plant.

One of them agreed and then instructed his subordinates to prepare the necessary documents for this purpose. The parties signed an act of work acceptance, after which more than 3 million rubles were illegally transferred to the accounts of the firm.

In the course of operatively-search activities it was found that the missing works were never performed. Criminal cases were initiated against the employees of SAPPP under item "g" part 3 article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Exceeding authority by a group of persons by prior conspiracy"). The head of the construction firm is suspected under the same article, as well as under part 5 of article 33 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Aiding and abetting a crime").

Earlier, January 14, former head of the State Automobile Inspection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Krasnoyarsk region Andrei Sirotinin was detained on suspicion of abuse of power. As reported in the regional prosecutor's office, according to the investigation, in the spring of 2024, Sirotinin instructed his subordinates to ensure the theoretical part of the driving test for his acquaintance, who was repairing his apartment.
