Putin called the defense of the Fatherland a sacred cause of Russians
Defense of the Fatherland and service to it has always been and remains a sacred cause for Russians, it unites society. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Russian Organizing Committee "Victory" on January 15.
During the meeting they discussed the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, which will be celebrated on May 9. The President emphasized that this event has colossal significance in the fate of Russia, the character and values of its people.
"As a sign of our undying memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War and the grandiose victory over Nazism, as a symbol of the unbreakable continuity of generations, 2025 has been declared in Russia the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. Defense of the Fatherland, service to the Fatherland has always been and remains a sacred cause for us," the head of state said.
In addition, Putin recalled that a year ago the Center for Historical Memory was established, necessary for the development of an advanced strategy to protect Russia's historical sovereignty. At the meeting, the President asked to present a report on the results of the work of the organization for the past period.
Earlier, on January 11, special operation veteran Sidam Nikolaev, who, despite being wounded, came to Moscow to lay flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, told Izvestia that it had always been his dream to do so, because the Soviet military performed a feat during the Great Patriotic War and Russian fighters are now doing the same - protecting the homeland from the Nazis.
Before that, on December 20, Putin said that 2025 will be the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, and this decision was made in honor of all the participants of the special operation to defend Donbass and in memory of the feats of ancestors who fought for the Motherland in different periods of its history.
