Strong storms damaged coastal infrastructure of resorts near Kaliningrad

The past strong storms in the Kaliningrad region caused damage to the coastal infrastructure of well-known local resorts - Yantarny, Pionersky and Zelenogradsk. This was reported on January 15 by the state budgetary institution "Baltberegozaschita".

After monitoring the seashore, it was found that in places where the shore was protected by fortification structures, the sandy slopes were not affected.

"In some places, the sandy beach in front of the structures has been preserved. However, objects of coastal infrastructure in Yantarny, Pionersky and Zelenogradsk received minor damage", - stated on the page of the organization in "VKontakte".

It is noted that in the eastern part of Zelenogradsk on the unprotected parts of the shore were recorded erosion of avandune, collapse of trees. Even more difficult situation is in the village of Rybnoye near Pionersky.

"In Rybnoye due to storm abrasion (Destruction of the coast by strong waves. - Ed.) on the territory of the summer practice base of the Kant BFU there is an emergency situation. Along the entire length of the eroded bedrock bank along the upper edge of the ledge," - added in the message.

Employees of "Baltberegozaschita" organized urgent measures to eliminate the emergency situation.

At the end of December 2024 and in early January this year, several cyclones hit the Kaliningrad region, which caused severe storms on the Baltic Sea. In mid-December, the governor of the region, Alexei Besprozvannykh, noted that schools in the Kaliningrad region would have free attendance due to the storm warning. He specified that emergency services in the region were put on high alert.
