New Lada Iskra and Niva Sport unveiled in Moscow
AvtoVAZ presented in Moscow a new Lada model, the Iskra sedan, and a sporty modification of the classic Niva Legend SUV. Izvestia correspondent reports about it from the company's press conference on January 15.
The start of production of the Lada Iskra is scheduled for the first half of 2025, AvtoVAZ head Maxim Sokolov told earlier. Iskra will occupy a niche in the brand's lineup between the affordable Granta and the more expensive Vesta. The model will be presented in sedan, station wagon and Cross body, and will receive three varieties of powertrains. The car is built on a modern global platform, which was re-engineered and became technologically independent after the breakdown of cooperation with Renault - Nissan.
Lada Niva in the new Sport modification is characterized by sporty suspension and brake settings, as well as the original powertrain: the SUV is equipped with a 16-valve engine with an output of 122 hp (151 Nm at 5000 rpm). Assembly of the new modification will be handled by the division "Lada Sport".
On November 28, 2024, AvtoVAZ announced that it will present a new B+ segment crossover on the Lada Vesta platform in the summer of 2025 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). A key project in 2025 will be the launch of Lada Iskra production, and one of the nearest new products will be the Niva Sport SUV, the company said. Upgrades to popular models are also planned, including the introduction of a more modern 1.8-liter engine on the Niva family.
