Nutritionist Elena Solomatina told about the benefits of olive oil for the health of the elderly.

In a conversation with "Moskva 24" on January 14, the specialist noted that olive oil has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system. The product is rich in polyunsaturated acids, such as omega-9, which help improve heart function.

According to research, regular consumption of a tablespoon of olive oil for two weeks has a positive effect on the condition of the heart muscle, notes 360.ru.

The nutritionist pointed out that it is important for older people to take care of blood vessels, because with age there is a violation of blood microcirculation in the body, which, in turn, negatively affects the condition of organs and tissue. She advised adding a spoonful of extra virgin olive oil to food every day, using it for salad dressing, RT notes.

Solomatina added: it is better to use refined olive oil for frying, stewing and baking, Pravda.Ru reported. It has a higher smoking point, and it does not so quickly transform into trans fats, which are harmful to the body, writes the website kp.ru.

Earlier, experts said that olive oil is useful for keeping the body in shape. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which reduces swelling, and also relieves pain after physical exertion, reports NSN.

Scientists from Harvard Medical School earlier concluded that replacing butter and mayonnaise in the diet with olive oil will increase life expectancy. During the study, more than 90 thousand volunteers filled out questionnaires about their diet every four years for 28 years.
