Kherson Region will strengthen its air defense system due to shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU). This was announced by Governor Volodymyr Saldo on January 13.

"Decisions have been made regarding the improvement of air defense of Kherson region and the interaction of military and civilian authorities. Now the air cover of settlements will be strengthened and the response time to threats will be further reduced," Saldo wrote in his Telegram channel.

The governor also added that a number of additional measures will be taken to destroy the AFU missile and artillery systems and UAV control points.

It is noted that the decision was taken against the background of increased rocket and artillery shelling by the Ukrainian army on the territory of the region and hit drones on civilians, civilian objects and infrastructure.

Earlier, on January 9, it became known that two people were killed and six others were injured during shelling by the AFU of the settlements of Abrikosovka and Podo-Kalinovka in the Kherson region. In addition, the Ukrainian army struck the villages of Velykiye Kopani and Novaya Mayachka. There are no casualties as a result of this incident.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
