Criminal case opened after AFU drone attack on car in Kursk region
A criminal case has been opened after a Ukrainian drone attacked a car in Belovo district of Kursk region, the Russian Investigative Committee said on January 13.
"A criminal case has been opened against militants of armed formations of Ukraine involved in a terrorist act against civilians in the Kursk region (paragraphs "a" and "v" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," the agency's Telegram channel said.
According to investigators, the attack, which resulted in two casualties, was carried out with the help of a drone with an explosive device. Ukrainian militants involved in this crime will be identified during the preliminary investigation and brought to justice.
Earlier in the day, Alexander Khinshtein, acting governor of Kursk region, said that a drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) attacked a civilian car on the road between the village of Belitsa and the village of Giry in Belovo district. Pensioner spouses who were in the car were injured and hospitalized.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6 last year. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
