Zakharova called confronting lies the main mission of Russian journalists
Russian journalists are entrusted with the most important mission - to counter the avalanche of lies and disinformation that Russia's enemies are using as an information weapon against its people. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 13.
"Even in conditions of unprecedented media pressure from the West, the Russian media manage to convey the truth about current and historical events not only to the domestic, but also to the world community," her congratulations on Russian Press Day, published on the website of the diplomatic mission, reads.
Zakharova noted that the ministry will continue to seek strict compliance with the principles of freedom of access to information and media pluralism. An important step, according to her, will be the creation of favorable and safe conditions for the work of Russian media and journalists abroad.
In addition, the diplomat noted the need for active efforts to ensure the effective functioning of international institutions created to protect the safety of correspondents, regardless of their nationality or other differences.
Every year on January 13, the Day of the Russian Press is celebrated in our country. The date of the holiday is timed to the release of Russia's first newspaper "Vedomosti". This event took place in 1703, playing an important role in the development of the Russian press.
On the holiday it is customary to congratulate all those involved in the production of printed and electronic publications: correspondents, editors, proofreaders, typesetters and photographers, as well as employees of printing houses, teachers and students of specialized fields.
