Self-employed paid 100 billion in taxes in 2024
Last year, the self-employed paid 99.8 billion rubles in professional income tax (PIT) - 1.6 times more than a year earlier, according to Izvestia, based on data from the Federal Tax Service (FTS).
The growth of revenues from the PIT is due to the increase in the number of self-employed, the growth of their revenue and the increase in the "average check" on their income - for example, in Moscow, it has increased by 12% compared to 2023, up to 3.3 thousand rubles, explained Yaroslav Kabakov, Director of Strategy at Finam Investment Company.
According to the statistics of the Federal Tax Service, at the end of 2024 there were 12.2 million self-employed people - a year ago there were 3 million less. They also earned Br2.2 trillion last year, which is 1.6 times more than the figure for 2023 (Br1.4 trillion).
"There are several reasons why the self-employed have started paying more taxes. First, the NAP regime itself is growing in popularity. Second, the rise in inflation, due to which the size of the average check has increased. Thirdly, the technical capabilities of businesses for the self-employed are expanding," explained Anna Tikhonova, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
Finally, a negative source of the growing popularity of the NAP is the "preparation" of companies for the transition to progressive personal income tax. Unscrupulous taxpayers can "transfer" their employees to self-employment in advance to partially cover tax losses, the expert added.
