Emergencies Ministry doubts ice formation on Baikal due to warm winter weather

The situation on Lake Baikal remains difficult, ice formation on the lake is not expected. This was reported on Sunday, January 12, by the press service of the Baikal search and rescue team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

"On Baikal remains a difficult situation, the speech about the formation of ice is not yet. On bays and bays zaberegi, but even there the ice cover is unstable," - stated in the message of the department in "VKontakte".

It is specified that in the north of the lake there is ice at a distance of 5 km from the shore. On the Small Sea "in places open water", and in the south of the ice is not expected.

Rescuers warn that it is very dangerous to go out and drive on the ice now. They ask to wait for frost and not to take risks to avoid accidents.

The day before in Buryatia, in the delta of the Selenga River, a car fell through the ice. The depth at the site of the fall amounted to 70 cm. No one was injured as a result of the incident. Rescuers pulled the two men ashore, they did not require medical assistance.
