Currently, there is a difficult situation at the port of Taman, where fuel oil continues to flow out of the damaged part of the tanker Volgoneft-239. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Alexander Kurenkov during an operational meeting on the situation in Anapa on January 12.

He noted that it is necessary to eliminate the leak and pump out fuel oil from the aft part of the tanker as soon as possible.

"At present it is impossible to carry out welding works while the fuel oil is close to the side of the tanker. Therefore, it is necessary by all means to clear the way for diving calculations with welding equipment," said the head of the department.

He added that at the same time it is necessary to organize access to the tanker from the port side. All calculations necessary for this have already been made. This work should begin today, on Sunday, and should be carried out round the clock, Kurenkov specified.

"In addition, I draw attention to the importance of organizing the collection and transportation of petroleum products, from the place of collection to their disposal, as well as the reclamation of sand on the beach," - said the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Responsible persons should control and report on the progress of work or emerging problems. The head of the agency also inspected the site of temporary storage of contaminated soil, which has already been removed from the coast. Kurenkov intends to spend about a week at the site of the emergency.

Earlier, on January 12, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the region Olga Shevtsova reported that during the day on January 11 in the Republic of Crimea was cleaned 13.9 km of coastline, collected 43.5 tons of soil and sand contaminated as a result of the crash of tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239".

The tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024 due to bad weather. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.

Later, on January 3, an oil slick was discovered in Sevastopol at the entrance to Balaklava Bay. The next day, it was reported about the advance of fuel oil to the north along the Crimean coast, and Sevastopol declared a state of emergency of regional character.

On January 11, the emergency threat regime of a municipal nature was introduced due to the identified fuel oil stains in the Chernomorsky district in the west of Crimea.
