An apartment in a residential building burned down in the historical part of St. Petersburg, the city's Emergencies Ministry's Main Directorate reported on January 12.

"A report of fire in the house 36-38 on Marata Street was received at 12:24 [Moscow time]. An apartment on the sixth floor in a multi-level five-six-story apartment building caught fire. The fire engulfed 50 square meters of a four-room apartment," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the department.

Rescuers evacuated 37 residents. The fire was liquidated less than an hour later.

As a result of the fire, an elderly woman was injured, she was hospitalized. The cause of the incident is being investigated.

Earlier, on January 7, two people died and three were injured in a house fire in Frunzensky district of St. Petersburg. The fire in a two-room apartment on the area of 30 square meters was extinguished by five units of equipment and 21 specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
