The State Duma denied discussing a complete ban on video games
The State Duma will continue to discuss the topic of fighting destructive content in video games to protect children, but there is no talk of banning the games, the chairman of the lower house of the Russian parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, said on January 12.
"A number of media resources have announced a possible complete ban on video games. I want to emphasize right away - there is no question of this," he wrote in his Telegram channel.
Volodin recalled that in recent years there have been a number of cases of attacks by school students on other students and teachers. These actions were provoked by participation in video games, he pointed out.
According to the speaker of the State Duma, this topic has interested many deputies. Parents, teachers, experts, representatives of the game industry, psychologists and all interested parties will be involved in the discussion of the related bill. The final decision should be balanced, Volodin emphasized.
He pointed out that the essence of the initiative is to protect children from destructive content on the Internet and video games, propaganda of prohibited information and everything that negatively affects the psyche of the younger generation.
Earlier, on January 9, Volodin said that by the end of the month the State Duma may decide to protect minors from destructive content in games. He noted that deputies receive appeals that the plot in modern video games contains aggression, violence and "propaganda of alien values."
After that, deputy Anton Nemkin told Izvestia about the preparation of a new bill that would require labeling games in terms of the content they contain. It is expected to be submitted to the State Duma in January.
