Criminal case opened after fire at acetone production facility in Gatchina

After a large fire at acetone production in an industrial zone in Gatchina, a criminal case on violation of safety rules has been initiated. This was reported on January 10 in the department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia in the Leningrad region.

"The investigative department for the city of Gatchina of the IC of Russia in the Leningrad region initiated a criminal case on the signs of a crime under part 1 of article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of safety rules in the conduct of other works, causing major damage")", - stated in the message of the department in its Telegram-channel.

It added that no one was injured in the fire.

A team consisting of investigators, criminalists, police officers and EMERCOM specialists has arrived at the scene. She is conducting investigative actions to establish all the circumstances of the incident. In addition, the necessary forensic examinations have been appointed, the participants of the investigation are receiving the documentation of the enterprise for familiarization.

In addition, the investigative body held an interdepartmental meeting, planning further steps in the investigation. They include finding out who is involved in the incident in the industrial zone.

Thefire in the industrial zone in Gatchina occurred earlier in the day. According to the RF Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire started in a two-story brick building. The area of the fire amounted to 1900 square meters. m. The fire was extinguished by more than 50 rescuers and 12 units of equipment. On the fact of the incident began verification.

Later, the press service of the Committee of law enforcement and security of the Leningrad region reported that the burning production eliminated open burning.

An eyewitness to the incident told Izvestia that there are several enterprises in the area of the fire, and among them there is a paint production. The woman shared that the fire looked unusual, and the cloud rising above it looked like a "fireball".
