There were 240 road accidents in Russia over the past day
On the first working day of January, 240 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 46 people were killed and 298 injured. 40 of the dead were passengers and drivers of vehicles. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Friday, January 10, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 70 accidents, 40 of which occurred at crosswalks and 30 outside their zone of action, six pedestrians were killed, 67 more were injured of varying severity. With participation of minors for the past day 26 accidents were registered, as a result of which 32 young road users were injured, including 11 pedestrians and 19 child passengers. One child passenger died.
Thus, in Kaluga region on the 316th km of the federal highway M-3 "Ukraine" a 74-year-old driver of a passenger car in a prohibited place went into the oncoming lane, where he collided with another passenger car. The three-year-old son of the driver of the oncoming car died as a result of the accident. At the time of the collision, he was in a child restraint device on the back row of seats. In addition, both drivers and another minor passenger in the second vehicle, a five-year-old boy who was in a child restraint on the back row of seats next to his dead brother, were injured.
"We urge motorists to strictly observe traffic rules and driving discipline. For safety purposes, drivers need to refuse risky manner of driving, especially in winter bad weather, from neglecting the established speed limit and making dangerous maneuvers, which often create preconditions for the commission of accidents with serious consequences. Remember that not only your life and health, but also the life and health of other road users, including their most vulnerable category - children - depend on your skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior behind the wheel," Deputy Head of the Department of Road Safety Propaganda and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Police Colonel Anton Belan told Izvestia.
In addition, due to adverse weather conditions in the form of snow, snowstorms and strong winds, traffic is temporarily stopped on several sections of the federal highway M-5 "Ural" in the Samara and Orenburg regions, as well as introduced traffic restrictions for buses and trucks on the same highway in the Republic of Bashkortostan and Chelyabinsk region. In the Kurgan region due to bad weather for buses and trucks is also temporarily restricted traffic on the federal highway R-254 "Irtysh" (Chelyabinsk - Kurgan - Omsk - Novosibirsk) from 126th km to 250th km.
When planning long-distance trips, the State Automobile Inspectorate recommends to follow the weather forecast, as well as media reports from the places of road closures or traffic restrictions. In case of inclement weather, strong winds, snowfall, snowstorms you should refrain from using personal vehicles until the weather conditions improve and use public transport.
The day before it was reported that from January 1 to January 8, 1842 accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 265 people were killed and 2697 injured. As a result of 428 accidents involving pedestrians, 65 people were killed and another 383 were injured of varying severity.
