Dealers reported a surplus of car dealerships in Moscow and the region
The number of car dealerships of Chinese brands in Moscow and the Moscow region is already excessive. Some of the dealers may close down in the coming months due to the current market situation. Renat Tyukteev, Deputy General Director for New Car Sales at Avilon AG, made such a forecast in a conversation with Izvestia on January 10.
According to him, car sales are expected to decline in 2025. There are no reasons for growth: the key rate is still high, which led to a decrease in the volume of loan transactions. The expert considers sales at the level of 1.4-1.5 million cars as an optimistic forecast for this year. This is 10-15% lower than the actual sales at the end of last year, he calculated.
"The level of penetration of credit deals for a number of key brands reached 90%, but in winter there is a decline in this sector due to high interest rates of banks and difficulties with approvals. It is also worth noting the mistakes of many Chinese manufacturers who have created an excessive dealer network in Moscow and the Moscow region. Already in the first half of 2025, this may lead to the bankruptcy of a number of small dealers", - said Tyukteev.
Earlier in the day it was reported that at the end of 2024 car sales in Russia were the best for the last five years. Last year, 1.57 million new cars were sold in the country. Before that, slightly more cars were realized in 2019 - 1.59 million units. Sales in 2024 were 48.4% higher than in 2023. Lada accounted for 28% of total sales.
