The State Duma will introduce a bill proposing to oblige insurance companies to notify drivers about the expiration of MTPL insurance. The head of the Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov (LDPR) told about it in his Telegram channel on January 10.

According to the deputy, the tightening of liability measures for driving without a policy or with an expired MTPL contract is often explained by the need to increase discipline among road users, but even law-abiding drivers do not always remember in time about the approaching expiration date of the contract.

The bill suggests that the insurer will notify the insured no earlier than 20 calendar days and no later than 10 calendar days before the expiration date of the CMTPL insurance contract, TASS reports. Nilov proposes to send such notifications by e-mail, SMS message or to the insured's personal account on the Gosusgoservices portal.

The day before, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation clarified whether a driver can drink alcohol after an accident. The Supreme Court considered the complaint of a driver from Karelia, who was deprived of his license for 1.5 years with a fine of 30 thousand rubles. It was established that he damaged the car by driving off into a ditch, after which he consumed alcohol.
