A criminal case has been opened against a citizen of Paraguay for a terrorist attack in Kursk region and mercenarism. This was reported in the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on January 10.

"The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against a citizen of the Republic of Paraguay Christian Rodrigo Carvallo. He is suspected of committing a terrorist act (paragraphs "a", "c" of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and mercenarism (part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)", - noted in the Telegram-channel.

According to the investigation, in October 2024 armed Carvallo invaded the territory of the Kursk region, used equipment of the Armed forces of Ukraine (AFU). It is noted that the mercenary committed crimes against civilians.

Now continue investigative actions to catch the perpetrator and clarify all the circumstances of the case.

Earlier, on January 2, an AFU mercenary from Poland, captured by the Russian Armed Forces, said that the Ukrainian command was indiscriminately recruiting foreigners into the army because of the shortage of manpower in the country. He added that the Ukrainians had set up a website to recruit foreigners to join the AFU more quickly.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
