New passenger car sales up 48% year-on-year in Russia

At the end of 2024, 1.57 million new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is 48.4% more than in 2023. This is stated in the report of the analytical agency "Avtostat", which was received by "Izvestia" on January 10.

Lada accounts for 28% of total sales, 436.2 thousand cars of the domestic brand were sold last year. A year earlier its share exceeded 30%.

The most popular foreign brand in 2024 was Haval, the sales volume of which reached 190.6 thousand units. The next six positions in the rating are also occupied by Chinese brands - Chery (157 thousand units), Geely (149.1 thousand units), Changan (106.1 thousand units), Omoda (49.5 thousand units), Exeed (40.9 thousand units) and Jetour (35.1 thousand units). Belarusian Belgee (34.6 thousand units) and Chinese Tank (28.5 thousand units) also made it to the top ten.

Among the top ten brands, only Exeed finished last year with negative dynamics (-3%), while all the others showed market growth. Omoda had the lowest growth rate (+18%), while Belgee had the strongest sales growth (almost 30 times - on a low comparative base), the analysts calculated.

In the model rating for the third year in a row holds the leadership of the family Lada Granta. Last year, 201.5 thousand of such cars were sold (including those produced on the basis of "Granta"). The model occupied 13% of the market against 18.5% a year earlier.

Next are Lada Vesta (123.2 thousand units) and Haval Jolion, which became the best-seller among foreign cars with the result of 83.8 thousand units. Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max and Tiggo 4 Pro, as well as Lada Niva Travel, Geely Monjaro, Lada Niva Legend, Omoda C5 and Haval M6 completed the top ten.

The day before it was reported that at the end of 2024 in Russia sold more than 23 thousand cars "Moskvich", including more than 2.4 thousand liftback "Moskvich 6" and more than 1.3 thousand electric crossovers "Moskvich 3e". Back in August 2024, Maxim Zlatokrylets, commercial director of the capital's automobile plant, stated that Moskvich was sticking to its plan to sell 27 thousand cars in 2024.
