The liberated town of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) will soon be restored from destruction. This was announced by the head of the DNR Denis Pushilin on January 9 on air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel .

"But, we can say, based on the location of the settlement, based on its direction, where it is possible and how the settlement will be involved, that Kurakhovo will be restored," Pushilin noted.

The head of the DNR also added that the settlement was significantly damaged, so experts are conducting work that will help to obtain data on the state of the city for restoration.

According to him, Kurakhovo is a serious fortified area, which is comparable in importance to Avdeevka and Ugledar.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported theliberation of Kurakhovo by the Russian military on January 6. The ministry said that it was the largest city in southwestern Donbas. During the fighting to liberate the settlement, the AFU lost more than 12,000 people and about 3,000 weapons and military equipment.

At the same time, footage was published in which Russian fighters, liberating Kurakhovo, destroyed at least 18 units of Ukrainian equipment, which was located in forest belts and among residential houses. Later, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov congratulated the Russian military on the liberation of the city.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
