US President-elect Donald Trump's recent statements contradict the anti-Russian narrative prevailing in Europe, the head of the Federation Council's commission on information policy, Alexei Pushkov, said on January 9.

"Trump's statements on the Ukrainian conflict, the danger of the idea of NATO enlargement by accepting Ukraine and the alliance's withdrawal to Russia's borders differ sharply from the rhetoric of [current US President Joe] Biden 's administration and the anti-Russian narrative dominating in Europe," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

Pushkov wondered what Trump's real policy would be in the context of these statements.

The day before, Arkady Moses, director of the Russian Studies Program at the Finnish Institute of International Relations, said that Trump's threats to Russian President Vladimir Putin while trying to resolve the conflict in Ukraine would be useless and would not have the expected impact.

On the same day, Trump said he understood Russia's position against Ukraine's membership in NATO. The politician said that he was aware of Putin's readiness to establish contact with the United States, but considered it unacceptable before his official return to the White House.

Earlier, on January 7, the American president-elect said that the conflict in Ukraine was the result of Biden's "fiasco". According to Trump, because of the steps of the head of state, the situation on the Ukrainian side risks additional escalation, and the conflict itself is a catastrophe in which people die every day.

Prior to this, on December 27, 2024, it was reported that Trump intends to end the conflict in Ukraine, but probably believes that this is possible if Kiev is strong.

Trump's team said on Dec. 13 that it was discussing ending the Ukraine conflict with the current White House administration and Ukrainian officials. At the same time, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg admitted the end of this crisis in the coming months.
