Russian government expects a record for domestic tourism
Tourist traffic in Russia from January to November 2024 increased by almost 11% compared to the same period of 2023 and amounted to almost 80 million trips. It is expected that the number of trips at the end of the year will amount to about 92 million and will be a record for the entire history of statistical observations. This was reported on January 8 in the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
"In the first 11 months of 2024, tourists made almost 80 million trips around the country, which shows a high interest in traveling in Russia. This is almost 11% more than in the same period of 2023. According to the forecast, at the end of last year the number of trips will amount to about 92 million and will be a record for the entire history of statistical observations of this indicator (for 23 years)," Chernyshenko said.
He also noted that such growth brings closer to the fulfillment of the goal set by Russian President Vladimir Putin: to reach 5% of the share of tourism in the country's GDP and 140 million trips by 2030.
Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said that with the development of domestic tourism the growth of new tourist centers increases. He noted such a trend in Siberia, where there is an increase in the number of tourist trips by more than 16%. Reshetnikov added that such improvement in tourism contributes to the increased interest in Russia by foreigners.
On the same day, Omani Minister Salem bin Mohammed al-Mahrouki, responding to Izvestia's question, said that he considers Russia an attractive tourist destination. He also expressed hope that the number of Russian tourists will increase in the future, which will be facilitated by direct air service between the countries.
Earlier, on December 26, "Izvestia" got acquainted with the results of research of the Association of Travel Aggregators, from which it follows that by the end of 2024 the depth of independent reservations of travelers through travel aggregators increased by one third, and the duration of trips - by 20%.
Before that, on December 23, it was reported that more than 80% of Russians planning trips for New Year holidays, give preference to domestic tourism. This is stated in the results of the study "SberStrakhovanie". Among the most popular destinations are Moscow (this city was chosen by 19% of respondents), St. Petersburg (13%) and the Black Sea coast (12%).
