The Emergencies Ministry expressed condolences to the families of the firefighters killed in Engels

Personnel of the Russian Emergencies Ministry have expressed their condolences to the families of the specialists who died while fighting a fire at an industrial enterprise in Engels, Saratov Region. The corresponding message was published by the agency in its Telegram channel on January 8.

Gennady Afanasyev and Zhaslan Teleupov died in the line of duty.

"This is an irreplaceable loss for the families of our employees and for the ministry. The firefighters of Russia mourn the death of their combat comrades. Bright memory to the heroes," Emergencies Ministry head Alexander Kurenkov said.

Afanasyev was the chief of the first fire-rescue unit of the third fire-rescue squad, for more than four years the man extinguished fires in Saratov's combat units. Teleupov was a senior firefighter of the fourth fire-rescue unit of the same detachment, the specialist had been in the ranks of the Ministry of Emergency Situations since 2019.

About the death of EMERCOM employees while extinguishing the fire earlier in the day, the governor of the Saratov region Roman Busargin reported.

A massive drone attack on Saratov and Engels was carried out in the morning on Wednesday, January 8. Later, an operational headquarters was deployed at the enterprise that caught fire as a result of the attack. Then the governor of the Saratov region specified that there were enough funds to localize the fire.

The AFU is trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
