Two EMERCOM employees killed while fighting a fire after a drone attack in Engels
Two employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were killed while extinguishing a fire at an industrial enterprise in Engels, Saratov Region, which broke out after a drone attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the head of the region Roman Busargin on January 8.
"Unfortunately, as a result of the liquidation there are two dead - employees of the fire department of the Emergencies Ministry. Also one specialist is hospitalized in the hospital," - wrote the Governor in his Telegram-channel.
Busargin said that the area of the fire has increased, and because of this in Engels will introduce a state of emergency. In addition, specialists of the Rospotrebnadzor department have been taking air samples in the area of the fire all day. Exceeding the norms for pollutants has not been found.
Earlier in the day, the governor of the Saratov region reported that Saratov and Engels were subjected to a massive attack by UAVs, and one of the industrial enterprises was damaged. No one was injured in the drone strike.
Later, an operational headquarters was deployed at the enterprise burning after the drone attack. Busargin then added that there were enough forces and means to localize the fire.
In addition, on the night of January 8, the governor of the region reported that air defense means (air defense) shot down a drone over Engels and its debris hit an industrial facility.
The AFU is trying to strike Russian territories amid the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
