The situation with fuel oil emissions in Crimea may worsen, the risk of pollution growth is high. This statement was made by the head of the republic, Sergey Aksyonov, on January 8.

He specified that the monitoring of the situation continued throughout the holidays. According to him, from December 21, 2024 to January 8 this year removed 265 tons of contaminated soil, as well as cleaned 84 km of coastline. At the same time, the emission of significant volumes of petroleum products was not recorded in the republic.

"However, according to forecasts, there is a high risk that the situation may worsen and the scale of the emergency may be comparable to the situation in the Krasnodar region," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

The head of Crimea said that in connection with the risk of deterioration of the situation it is necessary to strengthen the work of all services and agencies, also on the occasion will be increased grouping of forces and means.

The main task he called the prevention of emissions of oil products on the coast, for which it is important to provide "a sufficient number of groups to patrol 100% of the coast". Aksyonov also pointed out the need to ensure constant monitoring of the situation from the air.

In addition, the head of the republic reminded that on the basis of the safari park "Taigan" provides assistance to birds affected by fuel oil. He added that due to the limited capacity of the park will consider the issue of creating an additional pavilion under the Government of Crimea, designed for the same purposes.

On the eve of the Governor of the Krasnodar region Veniamin Kondratiev reported that from the beaches of Kuban removed more than 129 thousand tons of sand contaminated with fuel oil. According to him, 6.8 thousand people and 650 units of equipment were involved in the liquidation of the consequences.

December 15, 2024 tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait due to bad weather. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group has been set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the accident.

January 2, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Transport said that 2.4 thousand tons of oil products had fallen into the Black Sea after the crash of the tankers.

Later, on January 3, in Sevastopol, at the entrance to Balaklava Bay, a fuel oil slick was discovered. It was reported about the risk of advancement of fuel oil after the crash, which is fixed to the north along the Crimean coast. As part of the work of the operational headquarters organized "breakdown of the territory" to clean up traces of oil products.

At the same time in Sevastopol declared an emergency situation mode (emergency situation) of regional character.
